A superb sandy beach stretches as far as the eye can see at Dauphin Island.
A few people were braving the chilly breeze to go swimming in the cool sea.
Looking like something off another planet, this trawler has lifted its nets.
This shark was hanging outside an Estate Agents' office, alongside a lighthouse in Dauphin Island village.
We then went on a number of walking trails through the Audubon Bird Sanctuary ....
.... where we spotted this lizard.
One of the trails led to the seafront, with views of this lovely house ....
.... on a sandy beach. There were also warning signs about the mosquitos - but after we had been eaten by the Louisiana
State Birds earlier, these ones seemed quite tame !
Back on the trail and under the cool shelter of the trees.
Another view of the calm lake.
This reddish bird was happy to be photographed ....
.... as he posed and fluffed himself up on the treetop.
After we had completed the walking trails, we drove on to get the ferry from Dauphin Island across to Fort Morgan - but we
arrived at 12:20 to find that we had just missed one ferry, and the next sailing is at 14:00 ....
.... so we drove down to the Dauphin Island Estuary, and took photographs of the pelicans ....
.... who seemed quite at ease with the offshore gas rigs in the background.
We watched a heron stalking its lunch ....
.... as we sat and ate our chicken burger.
As the catch of crabs is sorted through, this dog waits hopefully for some scraps to drop for him.
We have lift off !
Also waiting for the ferry - the 40 minute crossing cost US$ 18,00 for the car and two of us.
Several birds hovered effortlessly as they followed the ferry across.
Another of the many gas rigs.
From Fort Morgan, we went into the Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge, where we photographed this flower.
After watching the sun set amongst the sand dunes, we drove on to Marina Bay Resort, Fort Walton (147 miles, 09:30 - 18:30,
US $ 51,43 / Euro xx,xx).
