From Gulf Port, we drove along the coast to Pass Christian ....
.... where there is a lovely harbour full of shrimp fishing vessels, large and small.
Recovering a heavily laden fishing boat after what looked like a successful trip ....
.... their catch will have to be weighed, to ensure that they have not been over-fishing the shrimp beds.
Heading a few miles further east along the coast, we came to Long Beach.
Snowy white and soft sand, but the sea is a muddy brown in colour (from the silty sediment brought down by the Mississippi
River) ....
.... so the beaches are left to the birds, rather than sunbathing tourists.
More shrimp fishing boats, this time at Biloxi - but here, the huge Casino complex alongside has taken over a large part of
the marina where these fishing boats used to be moored, and is slowly pushing the fishermen out of business. Is this really
progress ?
One of the fishermen had this old Ford truck ....
with an "Antique" number plate and a nice sticker on the tailgate.
Alongside the marina at Biloxi were rows of Chiquita containers full of bananas ....
.... and other fruits (with another casino behind encroaching into the commercial harbour area).
This fishing boat was thrown several hundred metres inland by Hurricane Camille. It was later moved closer to the beach when
the railway was constructed, and a gift shop was built alongside it.
A huge hotel / casino complex was built in the shape of a treasure ship .
Gators Souvenir shop.
Another souvenir shop.
A Seafood Restaurant.
Goin' fishin' - with 300 bhp !!
This Marine Enforcement boat was spotted in the car park at Biloxi ....
.... with 500 bhp !! The crooks don't stand much of a chance to get away from this one !
Just a few miles further down the coast at Ocean Springs, we came across another SVT Cobra, so had to stop and compare notes
with the owner, Rikki Callegari.
Ours sits much lower with the Eibach springs, but Rikki has an interesting aftermarket grill ....
.... and the (fake) roll-bar. He has also cut out the embossed COBRA letters in the rear bumper bar, and placed lights
behind them so that they glow in the dark !
From here we drove on to the Red Roof Inn, Mobile (126 miles, 09:30 - 19:00, US $ 37,79 / Euro xx,xx)
