The first stop this morning was to take this photograph of Kennys' truck near Gibson City.
There were several impressive houses here, such as this one ....
.... the Southdown Plantation House ....
.... and these colourful houses at Houma.
Also in Houma is the Jolly Inn and Cajun Café ....
.... where the 'gators look very hungry indeed !
A typical road here, the LA24 to Larose - slight undulations, otherwise smooth surface, a few gentle curves, overhanging
trees providing cool shade and .... NO-ONE ELSE IN SIGHT !
After driving to Cut Off and Luling, our next stop was the Jean Lafitte National Historic Park (just south of New Orleans),
where we walked along several of the trails - mostly on these wooden boardwalks through the cypress swamps.
Ace photographer Andrea has just spotted something ....
.... could it be this view of palmetto trees ? ....
.... or this snake ?
Actually, we saw over a dozen snakes in this park, all of which were quite harmless (according to local enthusiasts, Bill
and Liz - and we certainly wanted to believe them !)
Some were swimming around, presumably looking for frogs - or unwary tourists ....
.... whilst others were just enjoying the sunny Sunday afternoon (or waiting to drop onto their dinner below ?).
OK, no more snake pictures, I promise you - here is a cute gecko lizard instead.
A spider lily.
A white flower, and another view of the swamp.
Apparently the local indians used to store there nuts under this tree, and the roots grew around the obstacles.
Has he just found the Indians' hidden store of nuts ?
This marsh rabbit was very shy.
A blue flower.
Blossom on a Mountain Ash.
A pink lily.
The walkway winds along in the shade of the trees with goats beards hanging off them.
There is a lovely wooden bridge at the end of the trail.
From the Jean Lafitte National Historic Park, we headed north to the Best Western Hotel, New Orleans (155 miles, 09:00 - 17:30, US $ 59,62 / Euro xx,xx)
