Subject: Shipment Ford Mustang
Dear David,
Thanks for your email request, we can ship in consolidated container for $ 650.00 all-in port to port. Rate does not include duties and
taxes at destination. Marine insurance is recommended and may now be purchased for as little as 1.5% of the declared vehicle value.
Insurance carries a 3% deductible and transit time is approximately 18 days port to port.
Please contact us for further information and assistance.
regards
Pat Hodgkinson

Hi Pat,
Many thanks for your e-mail. Your quote of $650 to ship a vehicle from Miami to Bremerhaven is certainly very competitive - but
could you please indicate what duties and taxes are to be paid in addition?
The purchase price of the vehicle is $14000, but the value is $17000, so we would like to take out Marine insurance (at 1,5% of
$17000).
We will collect the vehicle from Dallas, Texas on 18th March, and deliver the vehicle to Miami port on April 3rd 2003.
Please let us know what other information you require, and what we need to do - we are flying to Miami in just over two weeks
time (on March 15th)!
Regards for now,
David (& Andrea) Butcher

Dear David,
Thanks for your email details of duties and taxes may be obtained from our German Agent ( Steffi Albrecht E-mail Address(es):
steffi.albrecht@ccsram.com ) as we do not keep up-to-date with European taxation. Steffi will also be able to estimate the local
handling charges in Bremerhaven when the container is unloaded and car prepared for collection.
Should you require further information or assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Best regards
Pat Hodgkinson

Hello Mr. Butcher,
did you get a price quote from Steffi already?
If you decide to ship the car, we need a written order for that, incl. car/vin, point for contact in the US and if the car will be
delivered at the port.

Hello Pat,
if the car is in a container with 2 more cars
then the Port handling charge is EUR 230.00
Custom clearence EUR 65.00
Tax and Duty app. EUR 4000.00
(depending on all costs stateside)
David, This is what I received from our German agent.
Most likely with this car, there will be 3 cars total in the container.

Subject: Shipping of Mustang from Miami to Bremerhaven
Hi Jack,
We dropped the Mustang off at ASIs premises in Miami on April 3rd, as previously arranged (Pat Hodgkinson was very friendly
and helpful in this matter).
Do you have any indication as to when the car will be delivered to Bremerhaven, and what paperwork we will need to complete
before (or when) we collect the car at Bremerhaven ?
I have started a web site for the car
(www.dbutcher.com/svtcobra.html) - there are
links to both yourself and ASI, as thanks for the superb service provided to date.
I have placed additional links on the page summarising our holiday - currently at
www.dbutcher.com/usa2003fe.html.
Looking forward to hearing from you shortly,
David & Andrea (Butcher)
P.S. for Pat - could you please forward the title to us, which our local Vehicle Registration Office requires to initiate the
re-registration procedure here.
Many thanks, I will phone the agent in Bremen tomorrow, to ask how I should proceed further.
I will have a problem in collecting the Mustang though - having been told originally that customs clearance and shipping
would take between 2 and 3 weeks, and since we dropped the car off in Miami on 3rd April, we were expecting to be able to
collect it in the first week of May, so we took all of last week off work.
Unfortunately, because my colleagues are now taking their turn on leave, I will probably not be able to get any time off (to
drive up to Bremen and collect the car) until June 10th.
Hi Pat,
Long time no hear, but why have you sent this to me?
Firstly, my name is not Bart (although I do like the Simpsons, I prefer Homer).
Secondly, I paid Jack Friedman at Double A Shipping $1344,15 in March 2003 for the shipment of my Mustang to Germany
(before I realised that he would subcontract the job to you - so I should have taken you up on your quote of $ 650 after all !!)
Incidentally, there is some concern about the Title and other paperwork, which seems to have gone missing !!
You promised (on 3rd April, when we dropped the Mustang off at your premises) to send the title to me by FedEx
within a week (because I need it to initiate the re-registration of the car in Germany), and I have never received it. Jack at
Double A assures me that it was sent some time ago to Interfracht in Bremen, where a Frau Kuhlmann assures me that they have
never received it.
And an explanation of the delay would have been courteous (anticipated shipping date on 3rd April was ca. 10th
April, arriving in Bremerhaven ca. 23rd April, which now (according to Jack Friedman) has become May 16th,
and according to Frau Kuhlmann has become May 26th). Have you got a better idea of what is going on here?
Dear David,
Re your email received via Jack. Vehicle was shipped (details follow) on May 2nd. As you know, we were only commissioned
in this case, to execute the loading. Once documents were cleared through US Customs, they were returned to CFR line for
forwarding to you. We do not use Interfracht in Germanyt due to past political issues but the container was definitely done
and shipped as follows:
Container # MSLU433910-7
Seal # 8162
Vessel: MSC Yokohama
Voyage 55A
ETS Miami: 05/02/03
ETA Bremerhaven: 05/16/03
As far as I know, this is the correct information, further to that, I can only suggest that you contact CFR line for confirmation.
Hi Jack,
Firstly, a number of corrections to the misleading e-mail that you sent to Pat on 18th May, attached in full below ....
> David Butcher shipped a vehicle from your place to mine, which originated from Texas
NO, I DROVE THE VEHICLE FROM THE VENDOR IN TEXAS TO ASI IN MIAMI
> However, the problem arose, that due to the DELAY of shipping his vehicle, he threatened to stop payment of his credit card.
NO, YOU INFORMED ME THAT YOU INTENDED TO REFUND THE MONEY THAT I HAD ALREADY PAID YOU BY CREDIT
CARD, after I asked you to explain the lengthy delay in the shipment and questioned the legality of adding surcharges to a
debit card transaction - and no such refund has yet been received in my Mastercard account.
> I have reversed his credit card and have insisted that CFR collect his payment of $1305.00 before collection in UK.
NO, SEE ABOVE - I HAVE STILL NOT RECEIVED A CREDIT FROM MASTERCARD IN UK - AND THE CAR IS TO BE COLLECTED
IN GERMANY.
And moving on ....
Frau Kuhlmann of Interfracht (Germany) has been extremely helpful in trying to sort out this mess, and has sent me an invoice
including the $1305 shipping fees (although I have already paid $ 1344 to you).
This $1344 has been converted by Mastercard into UKP 892. If and when you were to refund only $1344, I will receive about
UKP 850 back into my UK account - because of the bank exchange rates.
Therefore you have two choices, Jack .... either
a) if you insist on refunding the money that I paid to you, please transfer an amount in US$, Indian Rupees or whatever currency
of your choice to ensure that the final amount credited into my UK Mastercard account is the same as the UKP 892 that has
already been debited from that account.
or
b) you keep the amount of $1344 that I have already paid you (remember it was YOUR choice to change the payment terms long
after the payment had been completed, not MINE), and inform Frau Kuhlmann that she should deduct this amount from the invoice
that she has sent me, so that I can pay the balance and finally collect the car - as soon as possible.
Until this matter is resolved, I am not prepared to pay Interfracht for the shipping charges that I have already paid to you. If the
matter is not resolved within the next few days, additional charges for storage will be incurred, which I will expect YOU to pay,
since this delay was caused by YOUR decision to refund (not yet carried through) the shipping charges that I had paid to you earlier.
I hope that the above is clear - I will gladly provide a complete copy of all correspondance between Double A and myself to date
(which I am considering placing on the internet for all to wonder at the "service" provided by Double A and ASI, and
passing on to the "Better Business Bureau" for their consideration).
Please do not hesitate to contact me (ideally at david@289register.com)
if anyone has any further questions.
Regards,
David Butcher

Subject: Double Payment for shipment of car via Double A Autos ?!?
Jack,
I have paid Interfracht for all charges EXCEPT the shipping costs that I had already paid to you, so all is now waiting on the matter
of non-refund to be resolved.
Can you please send me some proof that you have indeed refunded my payment as you claim, so that I can pass this on to Mastercard
in UK - who still today insist that you have NOT refunded any money into my account yet ?
All e-mail correspondance (up until today) is now on my web site (including your comments about recent bad experiences with ASI) -
please check it out at www.dbutcher.com/2aauto-com.html,
since you have obviously completely forgotten that it was YOUR choice to claim to refund my payment !!! It will not be long before
the search engines, such as Google, will find this for anyone interested in Double A .... if only someone else had done this before I
pay you for your "services" ....
If this matter is not resolved within the next 5 days, I will pass all correspondance over into the hands of my solicitor, and instruct
him to recover the full UK Sterling amount debited from my account AND any additional charges.
Regards,
David.

Subject: 1998 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra Convertible
Hi Pat (and Jack),
We have just returned home after a 520 mile round trip to collect our Mustang from Bremerhaven today .... including spending two
hours in the enthralling company of Officer 79322 at the Bremerhaven Criminal Police Station (Department S7115) - whom, no
doubt, you will also be hearing from in the near future.
NOW we know why you, Pat, refused to reply to any of our earlier e-mails, and why you, Jack, thought that you could wriggle
out of any legal obligations by refunding (some of) the money that I had paid you for the shipping of our car.
Is there anything that either of you think that you should have told us about our car about 8 weeks ago, or would perhaps even be
prepared to admit to at this late stage?
I will arrange an appointment with my solicitor tomorrow, and appoint him to resolve this matter for me .... unless you have any
better suggestions? (after all, you've both had over 9 weeks to think about this) ....
